One must pay attention to maps and signs.  If you fail to pay attention you may end up somewhere and that somewhere might not be where you want to be.  Once upon a time I jumped on to one of the Metro trains in Washington DC.  This was something I did everyday for months.  My mistake was that I didn’t look at the signs and the system map and low and behold, I ended up in Silver Springs, Maryland when I wanted to be in Friendship Heights/  The cost was wasted time, wasted effort and that I was a bit chagrined.  Organization change programs and implementing the CMMI are both like that.  The lesson learned is that if you do not refer to model (the map) and ask questions of people that know the systme you may end up somewhere but with egg on your face and have to waste a  lot of effort to get back to where you started.
